氯化聚乙烯（CPE）为饱和高分子材料，外观为白色粉末，无毒无味，具有优良的耐侯性、耐臭氧、耐化学药品及耐老化性能，具有良好的耐油性、阻燃性及着色性能。韧性良好（在-30℃仍有柔韧性），与其它高分子材料具有良好的相容性，分解温度较高，分解产生HCL，HCL能催化CPE的脱氯反应.

氯化聚乙烯的水相法用的比较多，这种生产成本低，污染性差。还有一种是悬浮法，它比较成熟，国产的可以进行二次开发以及应用得到很快的发展，干燥的速度快。在储罐、钢结构中用的比较多，以提高施工的安全性。

国内氯化聚乙烯（CPE）型号一般用如135A、140B、239C等来标识，其中靠前位数字1和2表示残余结晶度（TAC值）的大小，1代表TAC值在0-10%，2表示TAC值>10%，第2、3位数字表示氯含量，如35表示氯含量为35%，最后一位是字母ABC，用来表示原料PE分子量的大小，A为最大，C为比较小。
